Rest in Peace Father Madiba

The MDC Youth Assembly joins the nation, South Africa and the rest of the world in mourning and celebrating the life of a genuine Hero and iconic African Statesman.

Africa has lost a distinguished democratic leader who lived an exemplary life. The late barrister, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela committed his life to fighting for the restoration and observation of the citizens’ rights and to build a colour blind nation.

His legacy lives on, the idea of resilience, reconciliation and peace, makes the greatest part of his leadership and in this he built a rainbow nation.

He did not care much about 27 years of his precious life spend in prison, in that regard he did not seek to revenge but when he walked out of prison, South Africa opened a new chapter in the quest to end apartheid.

Our President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai drew a leaf from him and agreed to sit down in government with the same people who nearly killed him, those who put him in prison on false allegations on several occasions.

For the betterment of the lives of Zimbabweans, President Tsvangirai got into a Government of National Unity and even said we open a new chapter in the people’s struggle just like the South Africans on the day that Mandela walked out of Prison.

The Youth Assembly draws a leaf of the ability to forgive and move forward again, Assembly President Hon. Solomon Madzore even after spending 405 days in prison, in the Guthrie Munyuki interview of the Daily News said “I would never want to see Mugabe behind bars”.

This generation has lost a caring inspirational political father. We will remember Mandela as a generous true revolutionary who had the people at heart, we hope that the oppressors will see the light and stop abductions, unjustified incarcerations, victimisations, torture and corrupt tendencies.

We hope that one day Africa shall be a rich continent that will not condone discrimination on grounds of gender, race, tribe, ethnicity, affiliation or religion.

From his grave Mandela will be happy to see that kind of Africa.

May his Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.

Congradulations ZINASU

The MDC Youth Assembly congratulates Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) for holding a successful congress at the weekend which elected a new leadership to rein over Zimbabwe’s biggest students’ board.

We wish the new leadership a fruitful season which will see them deal with countless issues affecting students considering the current state of affairs in the Nation. We believe that they will fearlessly push and genuinely fight for academic freedoms.

Many students are living out of campus because they do not afford Residential fees. Most of them struggle to get exorbitant tuition fees charged at various institutions of higher learning. The government of the day is reluctant to play its parental responsibility of intervening and give students’ grants and students’ loans.

The MDC has students at heart as enunciated in the party’s policy blue print, Agenda for Real Transformation (ART) that the MDC government will create a non-partisan revolving fund set aside to specifically give all students loans and grants.

We however do not want to distort history, therefore we acknowledge and respect the fact that ZINASU is a founding organisation of our party and they have a stake in our Party but the MDC does not have a stake in ZINASU.

Long Live ZINASU. Long live the people’s struggle.

Deputy Chairperson convicted for taking a lost ballot paper to ZEC

Senator Morgen Komichi was today sentenced to perform 365hrs of community service. He was facing two charges of fraud and contravening the Electoral Act. In July, he took a ballot paper found in a bin at the HICC and handed it over to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

The defence counsel has already indicated to the presiding magistrate Tendai Mahwe that his client is going to contest both the conviction and sentence to the High court. Lawyer Aleck Muchadehama pointed out that the matter that his client is being convicted of is a unique one where one is arrested for performing good citizenry of taking a lost ballot paper to the relevant authority.
The Assembly of the youth was at the Rotten row magistrate courts in full swing displaying their dismay and supporting their leader who was in Chikurubi maximum prison on remand for 97 days.

We are expecting his release from Chikurubi tonight.
Today’s court was attended by National Standing Committee members who include Vice President Hon Thokozani Khupe, National Organising Secretary Hon Nelson Chamisa and the Assembly President Hon Solomon “Mandela” Madzore who was flanged by Assembly Deputy Organising Secretary Happymore Chidziva and Spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo.

The Assembly wishes to reiterate the fact that both the arrest and detention were political which were meant to frustrate MDC members.
MDC is a solid party with strong roots and foundation in the people of Zimbabwe. It will remain focused and guided by its founding principles and core values of social democracy.
We remain a people’s project.

Sen. Morgen Komichi’s judgment set for tomorrow

Magistrate Tendai Mabwe will tomorrow 07 November 2013 give his ruling on the case of Deputy National Chairman Senator Morgen Komichi. He is accused of fraud and contravening the country’s electoral laws. The matter was closed last week after both the state and the defense counsel closed their cases.

Yesterday, the state prosecutor Mr. Michael Mugabe of the Attorney-General’s Office was expected to give his closing address in writing. Sen. Komichi’s lawyer Mr. Aleck Muchadehama has promised to have read and submit his reply in writing by end of today.

The Assembly urges all progressive citizens of Zimbabwe who can make their time, to go to Court 4 Rotten Row at 0830hrs.

Sen. Komichi is innocent until proven guilty by a credible court of law.

The Youth Assembly condemns the continued harassment of our leader as just an act of desperation meant to cover for ZEC’s failure to fulfill its mandate.

Sen. Morgen Komichi was just acting in his legal capacity as the Chief Election agent of President Morgan Tsvangirai. It boggles the mind why someone raising electoral complains through the correct channels is then prosecuted instead of the Electoral Board investing the irregularities.

ZEC clearly failed to preside over elections starting with the failure to contact special voting in the stipulated time and Sen. Komichi is now being used as sacrificial lamb.

We demand that the court be independent from political manipulation. The judiciary system has been used to victimize our members including Last Tamai Maengahama, Yvonne Musarurwa, Cllr Tungamirai Madzokere who have been in prison since May 2011. Justice delayed is justice denied.

ZINASU is an independent institution

The MDC Youth Assembly believes in independence of every institution including that of students. We believe in academic freedoms of students at Tertiary institutions which is the co-business of students union across the country.

We are very much aware that ZINASU like any other civic organization is political but it must not be partisan. We strongly believe that ZINASU’s impending congress should be left to run beyond the politics of political parties.

It is unfortunate that current developments in ZINASU as it prepares for its congress, has been characterized by internal power struggles that has led to certain sections of ZINASU employing adverse political strategies to outwit their competitors. To this end, claims have been made that the MDC is interfering in the affairs of the students union.

The Youth Assembly will not fane divisions in the institution but would rather wish ZINASU a fruitful Congress since they are an institution that provides oversight to the national development processes with bias to the students’ community.

We believe ZINASU has the ability to solely identify problems of students and advocate for better changes through the channels available to them.

Whilst it is an undisputed fact that ZINASU played a critical role in the formation of MDC as a political party in 1999; it however did not lose its independence and focus on the struggle for academic freedoms. To this end, ZINASU has a specific constituency that it serves without interference or influence of any political party. The MDC respects that and continue to view ZINASU as a progressive students’ movement that has a right to comment and participate in the political processes of this great land.

The students themselves know very well that only the MDC government can provide, meet and respect their legitimate demands, democratic rights and fundamental freedoms which ZANU PF government has failed to do.

The MDC Youth Assembly reiterates non-interference in the ZINASU congress and other issues but rather wishes the union a successful convention.

Long live ZINASU

ZANUPF desperation a circus to the nation

The Youth Assembly condemns in its strongest terms the arrest and frustration of the MDC Youth Assembly Secretary for Security and Defence Leader James Chidhakwa.

Chidhakwa was arrested on Friday the 11th of October 2013 at his workplace on false charges of aggravated malicious damage to property. ZANUPF is desperately trying to link him to their mysterious destruction of their Machipisa offices and Jongwe printers.

It is a public secret that the MDC is a peace loving party and therefore will not be involved in clandestine activities such as the destruction of property. We have a record of refraining from violence even in situations where agents of darkness have tried to set us into the trap. MDC is a development oriented party that will not want to see any backwardness in society hence it will not condone destruction of property.

Elections were rigged but the MDC did not use a violent approach in its reaction therefore the allegations are misplaced and a mockery to the Justice delivery system of our country.

The MDC Youth Assembly is totally behind the leader of the Party Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai hence ZANUPF is scared of him and would want to persecute our members for unshakably standing behind Dr Tsvangirai.

However this usual desperate political ploy to frustrate MDC members will not be sustained and the record is there in history where our members were arrested on false allegations some dying or staying in Remand for more than two years but the state eventually losing the case.

ZANUPF should stop that primitive frustration tactic since it has failed to work. We shall not be deterred by their behaviour.

The Assembly will not panic as they will remain focused and resolute.

President Tsvangirai shall lead us to Canaan

The Youth Assembly declares its continued and uncompromised loyalty to the Party and the President Dr Morgan Tsvangirai. Our leader represents the interests of the peasants, workers and the poor. He is the face of the people’s struggle as he carries the hopes of many young people.
President Morgan Tsvangirai

To all young people, President Morgan Tsvangirai represents a brighter future full of opportunities for everyone. He has the answers to the cries and challenges faced by the youth, mostly to do with job creation, genuine and sustainable youth upliftment, provision of good health facilities among others. Any other utterances in the corridors of Rumour are null and void.

The Assembly encourages all the Zimbabweans who voted for the MDC in the recent elections to remain resolute, Dr Tsvangirai shall lead us to Canaan soon.

The idea of change has not been rejected neither can it be stopped it is just a dream that was deferred by dark forces of evil but one day the people of Zimbabwe  shall prevail and our will shall be granted.
We continue to fight in the trenches and we remind ZANUPF that a stolen election is not a real house but just an ice castle that will melt when the sun shines.

We want to express our disappointment in the manner in which ZANUPF have splashed cash in the Mayoral elections. The Assembly hopes that culprits who connived with ZANUPF will get deserving punishments.
The Assembly also wants to make it clear that it will remain focused in the people’s struggle of dismantling a system that took the nation into a socio-economical abyss.

In the Four Years in Government the people of Zimbabwe have realised what the MDC is capable of doing. This is the sole reason why the people of Zimbabwe wanted the MDC to govern but these expressions were not heard mainly because of gross violations of electoral processes and laws.

Sooner than later the people of Zimbabwe will get the chance to choose their government in a free, fair, peaceful and credible election.
