Wedza youths are ready for the next election

The MDC Youth Assembly on Friday 30 December 2012 took to Wedza North constituency in Mashonaland East province at Zaire Business Centre for a youth rally. The rally was meant to welcome Youth Assembly President Solomon “Mandela” Madzore back from what he term ‘political college’, Chikurubi maximum prison where he stayed for more than a year. This was also meant to continue demanding for the unconditional release of the other 26 who are still in illegally detention.
Costa Machingauta: Youth Assembly Deputy President
Madzore couldn’t attend the rally as he was attending court session at the High court the whole day of Friday.

Youths in Wedza pledged to vote in their numbers in the forthcoming elections since they are fed up of being joblessness at the hands of ZANU PF. They also welcomed the MDC recently lunched jobs plan, JUICE as a panacea to the 32 years of misrule, maladministration and dictatorship. The youth also declared to vote yes to the draft constitution at the referendum.

Delivering the key note speech on behalf of Solomon “Mandela” Madzore, Costa Machingauta Youth Assembly Deputy President challenged the youth to emulate true fighters of the liberation struggle such as Josiah Tongogara, Ziyapapa Moyo among others who took the colonialists head on at their youth. “We are in a moment just like the 1979 one, where a dictator is going to be utterly uprooted by the people’s power. Our vote is our number one weapon. No one shall declare any area a no go area” said Machingauta. He denounced the use of violence by ZANU PF as a tool to campaign and urged all youth across all political and social divide not to be used by greedy shallow minded war lords, who fund violence to gain political ends.

Clifford Hlatywayo: Secretary for Information and Publicity
Addressing the same gathering, Youth Assembly National Spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo lambasted ZANU PF for looting county’s diamonds at the expense of suffering Zimbabweans and civil servants who are earning peanuts, stealing the money that is suppose to buy maize for areas that were critically affected by drought. “This is our era; we are the determiners of our own destiny. The coming elections is our chance to stop corruption, violence, murder and dictatorship by voting for President Morgan Tsvangirai”, said Hlatywayo.

The youth showed their discomfort on how Obert Mpofu is amassing wealth from the diamond proceeds. They want Obert Mpofu and other diamond looters to be investigated as a matter of urgency before they put the country’s economy at mess.

The Wedza rally was part of a national campaign that the Youth Assembly is doing to drum up support for the coming referendum and general elections.

Mash east youth leadership then handed over a present of a Holly Bible and an ox-tail for Madzore.
The rally was also attended by Youth Assembly National Executive members Jimmy Jalifu and Brightness Mangora; Mash east provincial youth chairperson Earthrage Kureva and his entire executive. Hon Pineal Denga Mash East Provincial Chairperson was also in attendance.
